Would you like to travel back in time and go back to the Middle Ages? Then stroll with me through the narrow alleyways of Innsbruck’s old town and discover parts of the medieval town wall, and relics from the time the city was founded. Insightful stories and amusing anecdotes from times long ago will bring the Middle Ages back to life. Where did tournaments take place? Why is there no longer a moat? And of course: What happened in Innsbruck when medieval times came to an end?

Old guilds, golden crafts: The Craftsmen Tour follows in the footsteps of ropemakers and barber surgeons, cannon founders, chandlers and gingerbread makers. Dive into the fascinating world of long-forgotten trades and traditional craftsmanship.

Traders and craftsmen have left their traces in our city over the centuries and continue to shape it to this day. On this tour, you will discover impressive old guild signs and learn interesting facts about different trades through the ages.

Innsbruck – an imperial city in the mountains. Join me on a journey back to Innsbruck’s most glamorous period, when imperial weddings, royal celebrations and magnificent tournaments took place in our city.
In keeping with the motto “Those who do not erect a monument to themselves will be forgotten by posterity”, unique pieces of art and buildings full of splendor were erected in Innsbruck. The Golden Roof, the Court Church (Hofkirche) with its famous emperor cenotaph as well as the baroque Court Castle (Hofburg) and other historic buildings bear witness to Innsbruck’s glorious past.
The stories behind the city’s history are captivating, too. What made emperors and dukes choose Innsbruck, the city in the mountains, as their place of residence? You’ll be in for a surprise!

“Emperors, kings and merchants, soldiers, poets, jugglers, suspicious lads and especially students” (travelogue 1730). They have all contributed to our cityscape over the centuries; they lived and celebrated here and brought substantial business to local inns.
From pilgrim hospices to dark dive bars, strict regulations governed inn and guesthouse culture to ensure law and order at night.
And it all comes with some fascinating stories. Why have so many people stayed in Innsbruck over the centuries, spent the night here and left their mark on our city? You’ll be surprised how many stories there are to tell!

This tour is perfect for foodies with an interest in history.
Walk with me through my hometown of Innsbruck and learn more about the eventful history of the city and the culinary traditions of the Tyrol region.
How did people live in this mountainous environment over the centuries? What did they eat?
Simple rural cuisine is certainly delicious. While some dishes might ring a bell – apple strudel, schnapps and mountain cheese – Kiachl, Kaiserschmarrn and Speck might be less familiar. All these and many other dishes are well worth trying. Based on long-standing traditions, some are only prepared on holidays.
Would you like to do a tasting on the tour? It would be my pleasure! I will put together a tailor-made tour according to your preferences.
